Nigara Hamono has been doing this for a long time — we’re talking centuries. Based in Hirosaki, a former castle town from the Edo period, they come from a region that once had over 100 blacksmith shops. Today, they’re one of the few still carrying that tradition forward, and it shows.
The Anmon series is built around SG2 stainless — high performance, excellent edge retention, and easy to maintain. But let’s be honest, what grabs you first is the finish. That raindrop damascus isn’t subtle… it pops. Inspired by the flow of the Anmon waterfalls near the Shirakami mountains, the pattern comes from layering and forging the steel multiple times. No two blades come out the same.
Performance-wise, it delivers. Thin, precise, smooth through product — exactly what you want from a well-done SG2. No gimmicks, just a really clean cutting feel.
Finished with a wenge wood octagonal handle and buffalo horn ferrule — a very classic look that balances the bold blade nicely. Comfortable in hand, well balanced, nothing overdone.
If you want something that performs at a high level but also stands out visually, this is easily one of the nicest pieces we have in the shop.
